MARIE KOHLER, Marie has worn many hats for Renaissance Theaterworks since its founding twenty seasons ago. A Co-Founder of the company, she has been a Co-Artistic Director, its Playwright-in-Residence, a director (A PHOENIX TOO FREQUENT and HOUNOUR) and has served on its Board and many committees. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Marie holds a BA with honors from Harvard University and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her lifelong passion and enthusiasm for the theater have helped shape the artistic vision of Renaissance Theaterworks. As playwright, she has written five well-received plays, four of which were written for and produced by Renaissance: COUNTING DAYS, MIDNIGHT AND MOLL FLANDERS, BOSWELL'S DREAMS and most recently, THE DIG in 2009. Marie is exceptionally proud to have been named "Artist of the Year" by the Milwaukee Arts' Board in 2005. (To learn more about her plays, visit http/mariekohler.com.) Marie will soon step down as Co-Artistic Director of Renaissance to pursue writing, directing and enjoying time with her family (including six wonderful grand-children). She will remain connected to Renaissance, however, by continuing as Playwright-in-Residence and serving as Dramaturg for certain plays. Marie feels monumentally grateful and fulfilled by her 20 years serving this theater in the company of her cherished friends and colleagues. An enduring and profound thank you to the Renaissance Women who have given her – and with whom she has shared - so much. To her husband and daughters, whose support and patience has been enduring, thank you. And to all the many wonderful people she’s worked with over the years as Co-Artistic Director –- actors, designers, directors, technicians, staff members, interns, volunteers, Board Members, committee members, donors and audience members -- thank you as well. See you at the theater!
